Effects environmental condition at scaffing process on physical activity of labour in iron and steel manufactory

Abstract
In this paper, the hazardous environmental factors which affect the health of steel workers, such as the location of the scaffing process in iron and steel manufacturing and the changes in physicial work activities have been compared to the loss of extrarenal fluid of 19 healthy labours. The average age of the workers was 28.8 years, ranging from 25 to 40 years.
The indexes of heat stress in the working environment exceeded the maximum allowable limit for industrial safety. The mean indexes are as follows: discomfort index (DI) =129.2, kata cooling power =8.9, heat stress index (HSI) =200. The density of dust was 915mg/m¢¥, which is more than 60 times the maximum allowable level as determined by the ACGIH. of the 19 subjects, 13 of them experienced a sweating rate (% of extrarenal fluid loss to body weight) of more than 3%.
